And my head hurts. To protect the eyes of the non-geeky )

  1. Housing benefit
I need to ask now - if I'm still here when my folks move in August (Please lord no) I want to have a definite place to live. Hell, the sooner I can get out the better, right now. If the only way to do it for now is with benefits, so be it.
  2. Training
I want to see about doing an MCP or MCSE or something, not entirely sure exactly what. My dad keeps on saying he'll pay for them, but £700+ is a lot of money, and TBH if he's willing to part with that much cash for training, I'd rather have it as cash to keep me afloat - right now it's the mroe pressing need. Anyhow, I want to see if the DSS will help with the costs of that.

Someone remind me :)

But when I look at the cost, it just makes me want to scream. Standard cost of a 5 day course in .NET - or most MS 'development' courses for that matter - is about £1,500. Argh. I somehow don't see the DSS forking out that much for me.

I guess there's only one way to find out, eh?

But for now - BED! It's 3:30am, ugh....

After not going to bed until nearly 4am yesterday, I woke up at 9:30am and was unable to get back to sleep. So mum dragged me off shopping and I got the chance to drop off an App Form at Asda ("now a member of the Wal*Mart family"). This afternoon I'm going to the jobcentre to ask about all that stuff and gubbins mentioned in my last post.

I'm soooo sleepy! *zonks out on the keyboard*

Safeway's and Asda's. Sound interesting. Ofc my 3rd might rule me straight out of both of them, but I hope they'll look deeper than "just a degree result". Damn that last year, damn Babis and all his crappy Greek software that didn't work properly! :-)

(Ya see, I blame Babis Theodoulidis for everything bad that happens in the world - because his software sucked ass, crashed all the time, and still he made us use it to do a piece of our 3rd yr coursework. Argh. Oh, and his lectures sucked too - with him in general, just reading the lecture notes.)

An agency just called to tell me that they're putting my CV forward for a C/C++ development position in Glasgow. Details are currently a little sketchy but he's going to call back in a day or two to tell me more. Now - knowing agencies as well as I do - I shouldn't get excited about this, but it's the first unsolicited phone call I've had regarding a job in about 2 months.

Assuming that I so much as get a chance of getting the position (so, interview stage or further), the only problem I forsee is that it is a 12month initial position - developing a new product. Ongoing employment depends on the success of the product.

I've also got details for a position I found at the job centre, "IT Trainee". Whooo. What excitement :) Support of NT & UNIX, helpdesk, web applications (whatever that means). It says "This position is an opportunity for someone to gain experience" - which I like! *smiles* Not what I was going for intially, but as I've said before - who's in a position to be picky?

So - we shall see... we shall see.

Housing Benefit forms... interesting. Seem far too simple :) And for my next trick, I shall see if I can get rented accommodation locally that will accept DSS (lots won't, for various reasons...). Of course, this might all be a mute point if I end up getting any of these jobs :)

Visual C++ is scaring me! It's so damn intimidating to use for the first time. OK this isn't technically the first time, but I've completely forgotten how to use the damn thing. I need a reference book!

Mommy I'm scared!
