My First Backup...
My First Backup, and I've run out of CDRs. Damnit! I'll have to head back to Helensburgh and snarf some of my dad's - he's always got some lying around, though Lordknows what he uses them for apart from copying software from peeps! It's gonna take an hour or two to do a complete backup now, anyhow.

I was planning on cutting the remainder of the grass today but the rain has come-a-pouring again after yesterdays sun and loveliness. Maybe going and sitting at the rent's for a while would be a good thing, borrow some of their DVDs and their electricity :) Their house will be warm, whereas mine is cold. Yes I could put the heater on, but as it's a macgas (same sort of thing as Calor) heater, it belches out moisture and I try to have it on as little as possible.

Looks like the backups are gonna take a few hours. Time to go for a drive.

'cuz I know that I'm home....

Very badly paraphrased, anyhow. Deep Blue Something - Home. Beautiful.

Backups done. Only 3 CDs? Shocking. Incremental backups from now on, on CD-RWs, I can't be arsed to keep a stack of backup CDs lying around for ages, no matter how more safe that is. Just verifying the backups now, and generally playing around with Mondo again.

While I've been burning, I've been clearing out a bag of stuff I picked up at my folks' when I took the lawnmower back. I decided to have a poke around the loft, and found it. It's full of stuff. The most important things to me were a "portrait" of Scotland, made out of an old Tenents can, an ancient and well thumbed version of Romeo and Juliet, and this.

This pile of "junk" that lies before me.
It's junk in that it could no longer possibly have any real use. It's wonderful for me, because in that pile is every single leaflet, every single ticket, every single receipt I ever got when I have been in the USA. Strictly speaking this is no longer true, as I have thrown out many of the receipts and bog standard travel tickets that have no specific memories attatched. However, I seem to have spent an unfeasible length of time at Philadelphia 30th St station, judging by the amount of tickets to and from there I have...

I found my tickets to the World Trade Centre Observation Deck. Wonder if they'll appreciate in value? I know there are thousands of these things produced and handed out, but seriously - how many people would have saved them? This is from the 15th July... hmm. Wouldn't sell anyhow, too many good memories attatched.

I found my ticket to the Mets game with Alexis. I found my ticket to go see the Talented Mr Ripley with Meagan (Kate's sister), and to go see the End of the Affair on Christmas Day with Kate. New Years eve 2000 train timetables, tickets, everything.

I love doing this every now and then.

Randomly enough, I also found a few non-related items that I thought had been consigned to some scrapheap. I have a beautiful hardback (with case) copy of The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, illustrated by John Burningham. I've had this as long as I can remember. Copyright date is 1983. 20yrs old. In almost perfect condition. Wow... how did I manage to avoid destroying it like I did almost everything else?

I found my "Staff" badge for the UMIST SA! Gets me exclusive backstage access to the Grot, Harry's and Club Underground. If I wanted it *cough*

Lastly, comes my band. OK my band is rather small and consists of a drum kit, a piano and a microphone. They're wire models, bought in Belgium when visiting Pete - who was then Big. They're in remarkably good condition considering they've been chucked in various bags and forgotten about.

There's a whole heap more, but most of it would be dull and boring. Posters, a Playboy video that I don't honestly remember buying. A game for the Amiga 5000 yet I never owned an Amiga! A book entitled "I Love Him... BUT!". Watercolours, A-Level and GCSE certificates. Tapes.

Wow this entry's long.
