I had Saturday off work as I had two things to do - one, an MS for the cinema in Barnsley. The other, a trip to Northampton to see some of Jane's friends (Emma's birthday bash). Before going, as Jane's just found out she has an interview on Friday, we went to Meadowhall to get her a suit.
What is it with the fairer sex that means they can't look at things once and make a decision? What is it that means you have to walk round the same bit of shop 3 times before deciding that actually, there's nothing there that was wanted? I eventually left her to it and went and looked at suits. I could do with a new one - had the current one for a number of years, but it only gets dusted off once or twice a year :)
After an hour and a half or so of shopping, queuing, debating, and me getting increasingly annoyed, off to Northampton we go. I never knew where the place was before, and never knew how easy it is to get there from here! Literally - Jct 37 M1, straight down to Jct 15 M1. Makes for a really boring drive though!
We arrived at the Ibis and were unimpressed from the start by having to pay for car parking overnight, and paying a tenner for 2 breakfasts! Both of those I would expect as standard from hotels these days, but I guess the Ibis is marketed as a "budget" hotel, so shouldn't complain too much.
The rooms were nice enough, we showered (oh showers... neither Jane nor I have "proper" showers so whenever we go anywhere that has one we take full advantage), Then on the way out we discovered that the restaraunt we were meeting at was in the same shopping centre/complex! Fantastic. We ended up finding a bar in the same building that was doing 241 cocktails (mmm) and started off the evening with Sex on the Beach on an empty stomach - good start!
Chinese was had, in an all you can eat - with SUSHI! Oh yes, fantastic. Good food, lots of people I didn't know and some I did, including Emma's sister (lovely lass), Amanda (friend from uni days), Louise (insane!), Ben (her boyf), and some other people whose names I have invariably forgotten. Wine was had, then a Wetherspoons where there was MUCH drinking of cocktail jugs.
Back to Emma's, for more wine and a very disturbing Winnie the Pooh/vibrating snake combination. I was quite worried for a while. More wine, cake, Kasabian, taxi home, sleep. Back to Emmas in the morning after breakfast (not worth a fiver!), talk, home, sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep.
I'm getting old, damnit. Can't drink and do anything the next day! :)
