I've been investigating web services to try and find some new stuff round and about. I've been checking out Twitter, and now have an account there, I'm not entirely sure what the point is yet, though I've yet to find many interesting people to follow.
I've been looking at http://www.go2web20.net/ (A directory of Web 2.0 sites) and out of it have found http://www.cookthink.com/. This seems to be the most useful thing I've found so far. You stick in some ingredients and some other keywords, and it pops up a recipe. I've not found it to work THAT well yet but it could come...
I've also been poking around the idea of OpenID (http://openid.net/) a bit more. I read about it a year or so ago and wasn't so impressed, but now the number of sites supporting it has increased it seems to be more-so. Everyone who has a LiveJournal account can use OpenID to verify themselves. The idea's simple... a 3rd party website (for example http://www.loudtwitter.com/ or http://www.sudokular.com/) wants to verify my identity. They ask me for a URL, and I put in "phil99.livejournal.com". LJ then checks that I want to allow LoudTwitter to be able to verify who I am.
Useful, because I only need to be signed in to LJ and remember my LJ OpenID URL. If I want to sign in somewhere I just type in the URL.
[EDIT: See http://youtube.com/watch?v=xcmY8Pk-qEk for a neat video explaining OpenID)
I'm using http://www.rememberthemilk.com/ for keeping up with some home-based tasks. It is essentially a web version of Outlook's tasks with email/SMS reminders. It's useful because if I remember something needs doing I can add to it on my mobile device, the PC or my mobile phone (while I still have it). It's a pain because it doesn't sync with outlook or the mobile task list. It can sync with my MDA Touch but only if I get a paid account. I'm tempted to try their free 14 day trial to see how well it works...
