Jane and I went to see Burn After Reading the other day. It's an odd film which follows the story of Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand as they happen upon what they think are state secrets and attempt to profit from it by blackmailing the originator (John Malkovich).

It's a comedy, maybe. Mixed in with several deaths and a marriage breakdown here, an affair there, the cold war, serious body image problems and other quite deep and meaningful things there's lots of laughs. Overall, the fusion of comedy and darkness didn't quite work for me. There was something missing, a spark that didn't quite ignite properly. I can't decide if I was too tired to get it properly or if actually, it wasn't working.

Might go see it again when I'm more awake, see if it makes more sense then.
