I'm definitely not the first to post about this and won't be the last, but see this LJ page:
http://community.livejournal.com/no_lj_ads/87066.html

Basically the 3 links mentioned there say that LJ are using some rather dodgy and sneaky scripts to rewrite URLs (links) that are being posted by users, to include their own referrer ID. This means that if I post a link to Amazon, and you buy the book I link to, they get a small cut.

Not such a bad thing, you might think. Or at least it wouldn't be if:
a:) They told users about this behaviour and gave an option to opt out
b:) They didn't strip off the existing referrer IDs that the user may have posted
c:) They didn't do it in a sneaky way that hides it from even tech savvy users

I am annoyed at their lack of subtlety more than anything. Another gaffe. They're never going to learn, are they?
