Forget roaming or sending photos from one country to another -- you can't even send a multimedia message from one carrier to another within most countries. Worse, in some cases you can't send an MMS from one brand of phone to another within a single network.
It's really interesting if you're interested about what the European mobile carriers are (and should be) doing right. Also goes through some of the big problems that they are going through. Biggest problem UK operators have? I feel that UK operators need to seperate handset and service more so than they do. I know T-Mobile's approach to faulty handsets are "manufacturers's warranty all the way, baby" but we're still expected to give away free phones. I think we should become more European in our appraoch, and have "phone" sales and "service" sales.

I also feel that this would encourage competition, due to the current 12month commitment things that we currently have. If we seperated h/s and service then this would be uneccesary. That would do wonders for the entire industry.

On the MMS interconnectivity front - give it a little while. For a long time SMS was for your own network only. It took time for networks to work it out. I say middle of 2003 before you can send MMS from O2 to T-Mobile, for example.

Speaking of MMS - I want an Ericsson T300. Oh yes. Get one on T-Mobile for £79.99 with camera included. I need to add £35 upgrade premium as still within 12mth commitment (grrr, see above about commitment), but as my folks are asking what I want for Christmas, I think I shall be asking my parents to stick £115 onto my phone bill to pay for that - that's all I want!

Well, it's either that or make another push to sell the car, and use the proceeds on it. Both work equally well!
