Today I've driven far. Done somewhere between 2-300 miles. And been questioned about myself. And got up at a ridiculous time of day. And slept. And bought a new DVD player.
Set off from Notting Hill at 0630. I must have been mad. Traffic was virtually non-existant, which was good but that time of day is foul. I don't think I remember anything before arriving around the Bradley Stoke area and being completely unable to find the Orange building. I knew where it was roughly, and went looking for a building with huge "Orange" signs on it, maybe painted orange? In the end I had to stop and buy breakfast and ask the guy at the trailer where it was.
Arrived early still, was met and prodded/poked/examined the usual ways (tell me about your job, tell me about your skills, give me an example of x/y/z, tell me what you understand this position to be about). Then I was asked to write an incident report based on information from a "real" incident, which was easy (just take the information and re-word it to make it easy for management to understand). The last thing was to record a voicemail message for another incident and send it to someone.
Unsure how it went. I made it fairly clear that I didn't have some of the skills they wanted but I couldn't have blagged it well. I was able to answer their competency questions easily and felt comfortable with the two people who were interviewing me.
I'll find out within 2 weeks, they said. I don't know which I'm more confident about.
Drove home. Nightmarish drive. So busy. I don't understand why the M5, M42, A42 and M1 were as crammed full of cars. Really hard work - especially as I was feeling very tired and wanted nothing but to get home. Ended up stopping round Nottingham for a rest as I didn't feel confident enough to drive for much longer without falling asleep.
I was given some money by the parents. They said it was for petrol and things, but part of that'll get refunded to me by Orange anyhow (T-Mobile told me they don't pay expenses for interviews). I have replaced my DVD player. Decided getting a 5.1 surround sound beastie wasn't worth the effort because my room doesn't quite work properly for it (diagonal setup, so speaker location is tricky). Also bought Harry to see what it's like, as I'd taken my coinage to the coin machine at Asda and got enough from them to buy it with :)
