I am strangely attracted to this sport. I started watching it a while back, when Channel 5 started showing it, and also got the NFL rights from Channel 4 (which I am still pissed about). It took me a long time to get really into it and understand it, and why it was enjoyable, but it's _great_! I stayed up till about 5am watching the World Series final last yr - with Arizona winning.

Now it's back, wheee! I'm so happy :) I just wish that they showed highlights occasionally, instead of always being on at 1am. Hell - Channel 5 have nothing else better to show!
Music:: Baseball stuff
Mood:: incredibly bouncy

Baseball is the only American professional "sport" I enjoy watching. Football (NFL) is meaningless smashing of bodies (as is Hockey), and Basketball is just absurd (as is Golf). Then there is NASCAR "racing"... which is not really racing at all as far as I'm concerned.

I did see a game of Finnish Baseball on TV once... It was quite fascinating. People ran around the bases in the direction opposite of the way we do (clockwise rather than counter-clockwise) and there could be multiple people on one base at any one time... and I think you could actually run backwards (like run from 2nd base to 1st) if you wanted - though I'm not sure why anyone would do that.

Hmmm. Wonder if I would enjoy Cricket...

I agree with you on almost all points - apart from American Football. Having played rugby for many years at school I can see where the skill comes in, and I appreciate it a lot. Rather than thinking that it's crap, like many Brits (and Americans) do :)

Cricket is well worth watching! It's a fairly slow, leisurely game, with some excitement every now and then - it is perfect for sunny Sunday afternoons, sitting in the stands with a beer and a paper. The rules are fairly arcane, and some of the fielding positions are just ridiculous (Silly middle wicket, Silly mid-off? I mean really) but it's fun as long as you don't expect a thrill-a-minute.
