Click me.... no, go on. It's safe
That. See that window open? That is the curse of "target="_blank".
I often work with 10-15 windows open and just take a minute out to look at LJ every now and then. When someone does that it messes up everything. Please - for the love of Phil - don't add "target="_blank" to your links! I can control perfectly well when I want another window to open!

Are you talking to me? Or am I not the only one who does this?
I hear you BUT most people do prefer it (including me). Sooooo I'm very likely not going to change. Although I DO accept bribes...

Thing is - a simple shift-click (in IE at least, dunno about Nutscrape) gives the same effect...
*shrugs* I am and always have been big on leaving anything that happens on the user's computer down to personal choice. Example: CSS and the ability to override style sheets with a local style. "target=..." removes this ability to customise my experience.
Then again - this is me - on a high horse that isn't at all important :-)

Wouldn't you rather have control over your "browsing experience"? Or am I just going to find out that I'm making something out of nothing (well, I know that anyhow - it's hardly life threatening.)? :)
