Argh. Having trouble making connections again. Problem seems to be related to stats showing in the DuN connectoid's "status" window - 328 errors in 4 mins and rising rapidly. I'll have to try a reboot... ho hum. Trying to find the tech support number for Chalkface to see if it's a prob on their end, but their page ain't loading, grrr. And now this entry isn't posting, GRAH! Well, a reboot worked. Kinda. I can connect, and the reported errors are back down to a rate that, while still indecent, is manageable. (10 in 4 minutes) Now I can't use the win32 client to update my journal, trying it on the web... *hopes*

Well Chalkface tech support... feh. Useless. Absolutely no help. I described the problems I was having and it obviously didn't match any of the computer-suggested problems I was having. He then started guessing at stuff, including trying to tell me that it could possibly be my OS, bugs appearing after it having been stable for weeks/months - with no changes to any DuN stuff. (Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.)

I had to hold back the laughter at that point...

After waking up late (11am), I went out to Glasgow for the hell of it. I was going to go to Dumbarton to try and get some pics of the castle and Dumbarton Rock, but half-way there found I had forgotten to bring any disks, what an idiot...

So I went to the Great Western Road and Byers Road, and investigated a little. There're lots of smaller shops round there, stuff that you don't tend to find in the main city centres. Only bought one thing - a "best of Hanna & Barbera cartoons music" cd, for a few pound. It's a bit of fun.

I think today I am going to try and redo/update my list of CDs. I've done a lot of reading through my O'Reilly "Core Internet Technologies" book and learnt a fair whack more about the inner workings of TCP / UDP / IP, so don't want to push it for the day :) Tommorrow I'm going to try and get some Winsock programming done, assuming of course that I can find either my Visual Basic or Watson(? Think it's Watson - anyhow, mainly for embedded stuff, but useful as is easy to create quick and dirty console apps.) CDs.

I have a plan :)

Scotland are winning in the Scotland Wales match... 12-9 so far - wheee!

That I went to see Blade II last night. I was pissed off with my dad so just went out and ended up at the cinema. The only thing starting soon was Blade II. I wasn't overall impressed. It was OK, but lots of plot holes, lots of "scientific" holes (why would a vampire hide in shallow water to avoid light? I mean come on now.), the fight scenes and the soundtrack was all very matrix-esque. *shrugs* It was a waste of a few hours.

The best thing about it, in my eyes, was the fact that I spotted Danny John-Jules from a mile away as one of th vamps. I think that Danny is a God - he played the Cat in Red Dwarf. Very well too, might I add!

I lived it, but I was far too young to understand it, ya know, and I'm quite ashamed to know absolutely nothing about it, and it's social effects on the country. Of course I can guess - but I wish I knew. The same goes for the miner's strikes. I know a little, and of course remember how it was at the time, but I was a 6-8 year old kid, how was I supposed to know what was going on? I really wish that I got it.

About the Community Charge - this is the best website I have found so far... on the whole situation... http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,3853887,00.html Seems to give a fairly thorough history...
