Yeah, it's been fun.
I'm sure if I write a lot here, that I'll get hurt by someone reading it for giving you all TMI.

[livejournal.com profile] pipsytip arrived on Thursday evening, to me pacing up and down in front of the window, keeping an eager eye out for Daisy. There was hugs. There was kisses. There was chinese and an early night.

Friday, there was snoggage, huggage and a late morning. There was a curly boar sausage - and mashed potato, and mushrooms.

Saturday there was Stirling castle. This was quite interesting and very beautiful. There was more snoggage.

Sunday is now.
Sunday, there was a late morning, and much more of the same. Then she left. *sulks*

That was my weekend.
It was fun.

I'm very curious right about now. I'd love to know about two things. [livejournal.com profile] kundrun and [livejournal.com profile] pipsytip and [livejournal.com profile] ruthytoothy are supposed to be heading out tonight, and I want to know what's going on! I'd love to be there as a fly on the wall :)

I've spent some of tonight playing with gmmusic. Yet another CD database. I don't know why I keep on bothering - I haven't found one yet that does what I want it to do. It's a simple request really. What I want, is a music database that allows you to assign multiple artists to a track or album. After all, how many songs on your CDs have two or more artists?

Annoyingly enough, gmmusic doesn't appear to make it easy to change an artist's name once in the database. For example - I have one CD in there under "Matthews, Dave", but want to change it to "Dave Matthews Band". It won't let me, because I have existing CDs under DMB. Grr. Slight annoyance.

Someday I am going to write one of my own. Problem being that my databse knowledge is pathetic. I wouldn't know where to start. Perhaps I should rip apart gmmusic and find out how _they_ do it.

I am curious as to what was going on earlier. Odd remark, yes. About 6pm, 3 or 4 fire engines went hurtling past the house, and not long after I could smell smoke really strongly. I couldn't see anything though, but the smell has lingered for the longest time.

I am wondering what to write. You all know and will say that "it's your journal and you can write what you want to". s'not that easy though :) I definitely want to copy one line of what [livejournal.com profile] pipsytip said in her journal: "I feel very lucky to have found someone who gets me so completely". It feels like the longest time...

I came out as a protector, btw.

On Saturday (yesterday), when we eventually got up (I swear if I have to be awoken at 0630 in the future, let it be by the lovely lady beside me and not that alarm clock), I suggested a trip out. As nice as it is to spend all day doing nothing much and enjoying each other's company, it's only Jane's 2nd foray into Scotland. Shocking.

There were a number of options, but I suggested Stirling castle. I considered Edinburgh but it's a Saturday, in or around festival season, on a hot summer's day. It would be disgustingly busy in the capital. After bacon butties (ohhhh - Safeway's "The Best" or something range, pricey but SOOOO worth it), we jumped in the car and drove there.

I parked in the city centre. Chiefly because I know how to get to those car parks *smiles*. Now anyone who knows anything about castles, knows that they're up hills.

Ow.
My legs hurt :)
Still.

It's a great example of a Scottish castle, in fabulous condition. Lots of restoration work done on it, which I am in two minds about. I sometimes wish they would leave these places in their original state, rather than try to "restore" them... interesting stuff on tapesries, a beautiful walk along the walls. Views for miles, literally as far as your eyes can see.

Stirling castle is built on a solitary "hummock", an outcrop of rock. For probably 10-15 miles in most directions it's flat. You can see everything, and imagining back to the 1600s, you can just see hordes of English knights, horsemen, bowmen, infantry and cavalry storming across the flat land to take the castle, to take King James. It's amazing.

Castles are fabulous :) Though Jane seems to know a heck of a lot more about them than I expected. I didn't realise that she was so knowledgable!

The walk back was pleasant. The sun had gone in and the temperature was coming steadily down. Leaving the castle we figured out that the big stage setup outside the castle was for Runrig, appears to be a 30th anniversary gig. That would explain why there were so many people wearing Runrig t-shirts wandering around the castle, eh?

I love Stirling. It's a pretty city. There's an awesome pasty shop :) There's the castle, the views, and the drive there and back is stunning as long as you avoid the M80 route. It's much nicer to come back through Balloch. If it hadn't been getting late-ish, I would have loved to stop at Loch Lomond but I think we were both really exhausted :) Besides - it's always good to have things to do "next time".
