Jane and I went to see Passion of the Christ tonight. Neither of us knew a terrible lot about the movie other than the dialogue was in Aramaic and the story was supposed to be something to do with "the dude" being crucified.
I was stunned. Shocked, sickened, surprised too. The soundtrack is the first thing to comment on - it's wonderful. The music was moving, matched perfectly with the mood and moved with the film nicely. The scenes everyone talks about... you know. The lashes and the crucifixion... icky icky icky. I cringed, I looked away after the first one, actually.
I can't vouch for story accuracy, or "historical facts", or anything like that because my knowledge of biblical stuff is woefully poor. It was slightly confusing for me, in fact. There were bits that I would really have liked to be able to go back a few minutes, watch again and listen to some audio commentary explaining what's going on. Looks like I'll be buying the DVD then ;)
mm.
I think it was a fantastic film. Stunning scenery and camera work, very well written (well, as much as the subtitling went). The acting was good and there was nothing in the film which made me go "I know that must have been wrong" apart from the long standing argument over whether "he" was nailed to the crucifix through his hands or wrists (c.f. Stigmata or this page).
I want to see it again but I want to do it when I can go back and watch again to make sure I understand.
