I've seen a really nice Panasonic DVD player/recorder/80Gb hard disk recorder in Asda's out of town store. It does DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, and every other kind of CD shaped media you can throw at it. I think I want one. I've seen them in Powerhouse for £250, and in Comet for £300, and Asda are flogging it for £220! Asked in Powerhouse and the cheapest they can offer on credit is 19.9% APR, Comet's credit is ridiculous at 24.9% APR! My credit card rate is lower than both of those!

I want one, but I don't want to take on more debt. I could buy it on credit but I shouldn't :) I really want a new DVD player damnit, and I don't want to buy anything but the best (yeah I know, I'm forgoing the phrase "that you can afford" on the end of that statement).

Unfortunately I have some more important things to buy first. Like... brake work done on the car. They're starting to feel like they need replacing (probably discs). I need new back tyres still. Why are car tyres so expensive?

What is it with any given backup solution's inability to estmiate the time remaining even partially realistically?

I've been on 6 minutes remaining now for the past 10 minutes.
The good new is, that since I've been doing lots of PC World jobs lately, I have to make a (refundable) £5 purchase. I now have more CD-Rs than I know what to do with! I wasted a load doing these backups as I didn't want to use DVDs :) Yeah it takes more space but hey, what's 15 CDs? :P

Let's start with today... wake up, spod. Sort out my paperwork, make sure I know where everything is that I'm supposed to be doing today. Decide I can't be arsed to wait until this evening to do the Pension service call, do it this morning.

Head off to Barnsley, do the CPWH job, during which the guy there just about sold me a Virgin phone :) It took a lot of effort to refuse! I was there nearly half an hour while he went through everything with me. I feel sorry for wasting his time in a way. Then to Cortonwood retail park, where there's 2 lunchtime cafes to do! That was really bad time planning, Phil... have lunch in B&Q's cafe, move to Asda's cafe and spent a good hour doing those two. Looked around the DVD players and drooled over the Panasonic one mentioned earlier. Come out of Asda feeling distinctly dodgy, not sure what happened with that panini there, but I only ate half of it...

Off to Sheffield, for a credit card stand job. I was supposed to observe them discretely for a few minutes first, but they'd positioned themselves in such a way as to ensure it was impossible to walk past them without coming into their "zone" (10yards from stand). I got collared as I tried to sneak past, and thought "If I decline now, I am going to look really dodgy if I come back later on..." so went with it. Unfortunately, when I'd gone through with the application, produced the letter of authority and he said "I thought you were an MSer but we're not supposed to say anything".

Ahh well, can't go perfectly every time, eh?

Tomorrow... work, 0800-1630, then I'll head straight to the gym, do the routine and spend a bif of time in the pool/spa/sauna/steam rooms. Niiiice.
