I've recently been having problems with the BBC iPlayer and YouTube. Watching full-screen videos just stopped working. They'd worked fine for ages then all of a sudden both well... stopped. The error message was a fairly innocuous "The driver R300 has stopped responding and was restarted" and would only happen in full screen videos.

Updated all drivers, going to ATI's website and downloading drivers from there, which Windows Vista really didn't like, and immediately downloaded a different version again!

I found a fix - turning off Adobe Flash's HW acceleration. This is a problem though in that it looks terrible with fast moving full-screen video.

Bloomin' 'eck, I think... I think it's working again! After several tortured attempts and various combinations of things to fix it, it seems that the following process is what's needed:

  1. Kill khost.exe and kservice.exe
  2. Use control panel to remove BBC iPlayer, killing kservice/khost when they restart - because they will
  3. Download kclean (found that on Sky's website) and run it
  4. Reboot PC
  5. Install BBC iPlayer again

In my case, that has fixed it and I can now download telly again though I have been in this situation before and am not-so-confident that it will stay fixed. Let's see, eh?

Now to update iTunes and see what that does to the PC....
