I just registered at the BT website, my interest in ADSL, and got this mail back....

From nobody@PRTWDS26.portal.btopenworld.com  Mon Jul 22 23:58:14 2002
Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 23:57:42 +0100 (BST)
To: bt@philsumner.co.uk
Subject: BTopenworld pre-order confirmation
From: preorder@btopenworld.com
X-Spam-Status: No, hits=2.2 required=5.0
        tests=NO_REAL_NAME,CTYPE_JUST_HTML
        version=2.31

[-- text/html is unsupported (use 'v' to view this part) --]
So, then attempted to send a mail in return expressing my annoyance and requesting a text only version. And got this...

From phil-99  Tue Jul 23 00:14:07 2002
Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 00:14:07 +0100
From: Mail Delivery Subsystem <mailer-daemon@raq381.uk2net.com>
To: phil-99@raq381.uk2net.com
Subject: Returned mail: User unknown
X-Spam-Status: No, hits=1.8 required=5.0
        tests=NO_MX_FOR_FROM
        version=2.31
Why send out an email I can not read, with a return address that I can not respond to, with no option to use plain text emails? So I sent a snotty letter to postmaster@ asking them to forward it to the relevant dept., or take action themselves. I bet it'll go straight to the bit-bucket that is:
mv snottymail > /dev/null

94% done on the Moody Blues, yay.

Just yet another reason not to become BT's bitch. I'm a happy NTL cable modem user who, although despising the company, has some respect for the Welsh guys who actually know what an IMAP over SSH tunnel is and can discuss it with you, without having to put you on hold while they riffle through the glossary at the back of "Which Computer" magazine.

Of course, they're of no use if you're not in an NTL area....

*grins* Of course you are correct - being in an area which is (telecommunicationally speaking - heck, in any department, thinking on it) in the dark ages, getting NTL round here would be a miracle.

Doesn't help that it's Naval quarters as well, so nobody wants to put in the capital investment for a bunch of people who won't be around forever.
