Long time, no real edit.
Not much happening. Life rumbles on. Went out with mum for dinner last night, went to Kublhai Khan for food. Hmmmm. Nice. Came up with some interesting concoctions, almost all of which were very good.
Today I have done very little. I rented "Harvard Man", "The Others" and something else, which I have already forgotten. Oh, "American Psycho". Harvard Man was really good. Very interesting, especially the bits where he's taken the LSD.
amphigorey13 bought me a new mouse, thanks be. I was going to get one myself but the fantastic soul she is, she forked out for a "Microsoft Optical Blue" (rearrange the words, might get the right order eventually), which is wireless AND optical. Ooooooo.
Been spending lots of time downloading stuff that I would never have bothered with before. Got Linux installed again, so now relearning how it all works. A lot of the stuff that SuSE used to do has changed subtly, so I'm taking baby steps :) I have an O'Reilly "Running Linux" book which has to help, but it's a bit short on Gnome and window managers in general.
Now to see what I can do about getting my music shared between WXP and Linux again. Grr, Linux can't write to an NTFS partition just yet. Best reformat as FAT32, I think.
Listening to Radio 4 online is so satisfying. I don't understand why, but it's so much more convenient than the radio (when I am at my PC, anyway!).

Ask me something, mail me. Best way of getting hold of me, as I have yet to find a single Linux based instant messenger that doesn't crash the second I look at it.
Re:
have you tried GAIM?
most people I know who use linux like that one.
