I just called work to see whether there's any short notice holiday available for Weds/Thurs or Fri. All I said was "I was just wondering if there was any STAR time available for this week?" and Pieter said "Hi Phil......".

Oh dear. Am I really that distinctive over the phone? That out of hundreds of employees they can recognise me? Or maybe I just call them too often! :)

Went in!
I didn't need it off, I just _wanted_ it.

It's ridiculous at the moment. There is barely any availability for holidays and it's to the stage where I'm just booking time off when I can, because I have 200hrs of holiday left to take and if I don't take it, I will lose it at the end of the finiancial year.

and when does the financial year end? June 30? that's when most end here in the states.
that's about the same as it is where I work (http://www.goodsamhosp.org), people want to take their days but can't because so many already are
