I've made a decision. Another one. This is quite astonshing for me. 2 or more decisions a week? A day?!

I've been thinking for a little while, that I need to consider how much I'm drinking. Not that much in reality, but I've sunk into the habit of drinking every day. Not conciously, I should just add, but if there's booze, it gets drunk. This isn't a bad thing in itself, but it's a bad thing for me. Dunno if anyone who reads this would know, but as a student, I stopped drinking at all for over 6mths 'cuz I terrified myself with how much I was pouring down my neck.

Actually, it's all [livejournal.com profile] elmyra's fault. This comment. Quite a while back now.

Anyhow. My point is. After this weekend, no more booze in the house. None. No more nipping out to the Yellow Shop and grabbing 4 beers when I get back from work. No more picking up bottle of Deuchars IPA from Tesco, no more Goose Island or Brooklyn beer from Safeway.

This can only be a good thing.
Not hard, either!
Think if the money savings!

Pfft, it's easy done...we got into the habit of having a beer with a meal. We just don't buy it now. We still have spirits and wine in, but there's only me drinks the wine, so I tend to share it when friends are round, and spirits only get drunk in extremis (on REALLY bad days). Maybe you could just get used to having with food rather than as a drink on it's own?

I don't have "mealtimes" really - so drinking with meals is out of the question.

I don't mind stopping. It's a good thing all round. Considering I'm spending on average (4*80p) a night, minimum, it's a moneysaver in a fairly good way!

It's not like I'm never gonna drink again, it's just me being worried and deciding to do something about my worries now, and taking the easiest first step.

*nods* put your 4.80 in a jar every night and take me out to dinner next week. ;)

I would never take you to McDs, you're too classy for that! Burger King is more for you ;)

Well, I'm going to be taking Ruthy out next Friday. Wanna join us? ;)

Hey...good for you Phil! :)

I dunno...drinking isnt bad...unless it becomes a necessity. I almost always have wine in the house...or often a fridge full of Heinekens...But I'm not big on getting loopy. (Having to wake up to a very active small child everyday is enough reason to be alert each morning *grin*)

Still like my wine with dinner though. :)

*laughs* Yeah, the kid thing is a big incentive :)

I agree that drinking on it's own isn't bad. But... and this is my but... it's a tough line to draw between "necessity" and "liking". I currently have a big liking for a drink at night, it makes the night go by faster :) It's just plain nice. And falling asleep on the sofa after a few vodkas isn't bad until you wake up with a crick in your neck :)

When does that become a "need"? When does it get to the point that a night without alcohol becomes intolerable? And when it gets to that point, is there a sensible way out?

It's not that I'm paranoid, honest :)

everytime you want to get beer or alcohol put it in a piggy bank...
you'll pay off all your debts faster then you know

(Catching up on my friends page...) I reckon it's a good decision, but then, I'm biased. :-)

*laughs* You are a long way behind!
You may be biased, but I still think it's sensible. You do realise that my addiction to coke (cola!!) is gonna get twice as bad now? :)
