The irony of the letter I received yesterday.

I got a declining letter for my own job today. When I called up HR in Dearne Valley a while back the fools didn't listen to me and made me go through the phone interview. I got the letter today telling me they didn't want me. D'oh!?

Anyhow.
Days off.
Lazy.
Sent more Amazon stuff off.
Decided to give up with Kernel 2.4.21 for now - couldn't make the damned thing work properly, but I think I found my answer! mk_initrd is my friend. Anyhow, recompiled SuSE's stock .20 kernel to get sound and ACPI working properly, works much better now.

Must do something tomorrow. I'm being very lazy and the weather over the last few days has prevented me from doing much in the way of walking. I am gonna make myself go tomorrow, because I really need to darnit!

Hmm, full of surprises indeed.
I don't think I've written about this yet, if I have, you will have to suffer it again, muhaha!

OK, you know I was gonna transfer to Dearne Valley as a Customer Service Advisor? Well - on Monday I got a chat with Kenny Anderson who is the TDMS (Tech Support) Ops Manager, who said that if I wanted to and if I could pass the assessment, I could move to TDMS in Greenock.

Argh!
So. Just to throw another thing into the pot, and confuse me completely. I've got 2 options now, both of them I want, and want them I do in no small way. I can move to Rotherham and be close to the people I want to be close to yet be doing a job I really don't want to be. Or I can stay in Greenock and do the job I want to, with no move.

I don't know.
Well, in actual fact, I do know really.
I'm going to stay. I need to stay. For my career's and my sanity's sake. My plan - my plan is to stay here for another few months and work in TDMS. Get some experience together and get my name known in that department. Then move. I talked to someone in DV the other day at TDMS and they said they are always looking for TDMS advisors. So. Although it means a delay of a few months, it means an infinitely happier Phil.

The only - and I stress the _only_ bad thing I can think of, is that it means moving onto 8 & 1/2hr shifts, whereas we are on 10 & 1/2hr shifts now. This essentially means I lose one day off a week. And, this is a bad thing. We are spoilt on our current shift pattern, so...

OK, so to run down the basics again.
  1. Stay in Greenock in a job I want on a shift pattern slightly worse than what I am on now.
  2. Stay in Greenock in a job I don't want on a shift pattern I do like.
  3. Move to DV in a job I don't want on a shift pattern I have no control over.
Option number 1 it is, then.

I'm slowly reaching the conclusion that in order to qualify for the HR department you have to be stupid and illiterate. Ho hum.

You think that's bad? Friend of mine ([livejournal.com profile] kundrun) has to apply for her own job atm, which is a bad start.

Summary: They were unable to make a shortlist for my job because all 35 or so applications were shit. Including mine. Apparently I didn't "sell" myself enough. What am I, salami?

Basically it comes down to the fact that nobody filled in the application form the way HR like it. Whaaaat?
