You go away for a few days, come back to LJ to find everything's gone haywire! TWO HUNDRED ENTRIES! That's 200 entries!
By 'eck you lot write lots.
Anyways.
Househunting. The short story is, it sucks. I have potential accomodation. However it still sucks.
Starting on Friday, finished work and drove to see Jane. Awwww :)
Saturday, left not too early and arrived in Sheffield at about midday, maybe a bit after. Driving there is a pain, easy driving but quite a distance on the m/way. Found a few things, places, stuff to look at and so on. Went to see one place nr Sheff. Airport, which frankly was a hole. OK that's a bit mean. It was advertised as part-furnished yet ony had a bed, and a stereo? It was a nice enough place but was in such a state I would have been embarassed to let anyone see it, never mind prospective tenants.
Got a phone call arranging to view another place after we'd already arranged to meet David and Dawn - d'oh. Went to view them, though they were both advertised as part-furnished, one didn't even have carpets, and the other barely had carpets! Whoa! Spent Saturday evening with Dawn and David and had a nice time there.
Sunday was slow, went for lunch and spent some time with Caroline and Andrew, was forced to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show which I'm not entirely sure about, not sure if it's good, bad, awful or just indifferent.
Monday I went to Sheffield with Jane again, saw some more houses, did some more investigation and made some more appointments. Saw David in the evening and went for curry. Stayed far too late and got back home at midnight.
Left early again on Tuesday. 7:30 am I left. For a 10am appointment. I thought to myself - no bother, eh? 2 1/2 hrs to make what is normally a 1 1/2 hr journey. Gives me time to grab some breakfast. Fat chance of that. I made it to the house at 10:05. Really really frustrating. Most of the M1 was OK, but the M60s were all horrid. House was OK, in what looked and felt like a slightly dodgy area. Some of the windows didn't appear to close properly, had huge gaps round them. Bad sign.
Drove to Barnsley where I spent the rest of the day wandering round looking for letting agencies. Lots about, some with good stuff, some with none. Made appts for 2 viewings on Weds. Stayed over with David in Sheffield.
Weds - awoke early, headed straight off to Shoreham St in Sheffield. For those not in the know, Shoreham St. is parallel to Elland Road. For those still not in the know, Elland Road is the name of Sheffield Wednesday (FC)'s ground. For those still not in the know, the flat is (literally) opposite the ticket booths.
Shame really, the flat was nice. It was above a chippie which isn't always a bad thing as long as there's good ventilation and wotnot. It was 2 storey, with an attic bedroom and bathroom, decent sized kitchen, nice furnished living room and it was fairly cheap! However... location location location. I liked the place lots but don't think I could have done the whole Saturday afternoon thaing...
Then off to Barnsley, for my two hopefuls. I'd got the available list from an agency in Barnsley on Tues and had driven round some of these places to find out what the deal was. They looked nice from the outside. One is on a main road - a really major road in fact. Double glazed so not a huge issue but still. It also has a cellar :) The other is in a nice estate north of Sheffield. Both virtually identical sizes, 2 bed terraces.
In the end I decided to go for the one in the estate. I had another appt for the evening but brushed it off. This was almost perfect for me. Same price as where I am now with an entire extra storey :) *chuckles* It's in Barnsley too, which is closer to work than Sheffield. The daily commute should work out to be approximately 30mins.
Now comes the frustrating bit.
I'm trying to rent this property. I've told them I definitely want it. I've filled in the forms. However they are refusing to "reserve" it for me for 2 days, because I can't pay the app fee until tomorrow. And I don't have a chequebook with me. And my bank won't extend my overdraught by £100 for 2 days! And assuming that nobody else has taken it before tomorrow when I will pay them money, there's STILL no guarantees because they're saying it's too much notice! Apparently they won't let me take it on until 2 weeks before I want to move in, without the landlord's consent which I am currently waiting for! GAH!
So I'm now in limbo. I don't know whether I'll still have a potential place or not. My parents have been good and said if it's a major problem and the agency are looking like declining my application because of the notice involved, they'll pay for 2 week's rent - like from mid-november to the end of november. That is very cool indeed.
It's so frustrating that I've spent so long looking and I found something so good for me and it's so tantalisingly close, yet just out of reach... it's also frustrating that I'm being forced to hang around here when I really don't 3want to have to any more. I've been away a week, I miss my part of the world. I don't like living out of a bag.

As I said to you, even if you had have loaned it to me, it still would have required me to travel back to Manchester, then back again. It would have saved me a day of hanging around, but then I would have lost another night with the

I read it after I wrote it and notice that it was wrong. I think there was something on TV that talked about Elland Road which confused me. Hoped I could get back to this before someone picked up on it :)
