Sucks ass, but I'll get by.

I can't seem to persuade work to take me on for Christmas day somehow, so I'm going to go to Jane's parents' for Christmas. Should be interesting. Only issue from my side is that I've gotta be back at work on the 27th, which is kinda pants. Will get Donna to check the holiday availability but I'll be amazed if anything is open.

I have curtains. Kinda. I daren't take a picture because it looks so bloody ridiculous. When I moved in there was a packet with curtains in sat on the windowsill, so I thought "great, some nice person left some curtains behind for the living room". Well, this morning after going and buying a new curtain rail, hanging it, and unpacking the curtains, I was shocked to find that they're different lengths!

One is full-length (from ceiling to floor) and the other is half-length (doesn't cover the whole window). I gave in and hung them both because I need something to give me a little privacy, even if it isn't elegant or good looking and makes it look daft - but decent curtains are damned expensive!

I was impressed by Focus Do It All - went there on a whim and found a Roman blind which fits my bedroom window perfectly, for £7 or so. They're normally darned expensive. I now have privacy not involving plastic bags and net curtains in front of the windows! (Ain't I classy?) Hurrah!

I took a different route home from work tonight. Normally I go along the A633/A635 (through Wombwell and other ickle towns) until I get almost home, then it's plain sailing. Tonight I went along Dearne Valley Parkway (A6195 or something daft) which is dual carriageway, to the M1, then up from J36 to J37, from where it's plain sailing again. Took me the same amount of time (20mins), just feels wrong to be travelling a little bit south and a little bit west to go north and east again. I guess that it would be much quicker during rush-hour.

Christmas is coming and Phil is unprepared. Once again I have done nothing. I have no planning, have no ideas and have only today found out what I will be doing on the day. I want to be able to say I will be able to return all the kind gestures that everyone makes but I don't know yet. I need to plan carefully for the next few weeks.

Lastly but not leastly - I'm happy. Despite the occasional thoughts of "what the hell are you doing you idiot?" that are passing through my head every now and then, I am happy.

oh my god, you are really near me now (in comparison to where you were before).

when i come back to my mum and dad's i go off at junction 35A and take the A616 up towards Huddersfield / New Mill.

today i came back from Manchester and was on the A635 most of the way.

i don't really know the roads around here at all, but i'm sure Wombwell is nearby.

I'm living in Barnsley, working in Dearne Valley (Manvers). That anywhere near you?

aye, there's a little shitty train called the "Penistone Line" that runs from sheffield to huddersfield via Meadowhall, Wombwell, Barnsley, Penistone and various other places.

well that shitty train actually tunnels under a corner of my parents' own land now, between Stocksmoor and Brockholes, although brockholes is our nearest stop. so yeah, you're approx half an hour away on the shitty train. that makes you local :)

i call it shitty because it only runs every 2 hours on sundays (about 6 times in each direction) and usually only once an hour the rest of the time, and it's usually a 2-car knackered old diesel train that is unfit to run anywhere else on the rail network, but there are a great many ppl who rely on it every day.

Ahhh, OK. Gotcha. I drive past the area fairly often. On my way from here to Halifax (Jane lives there) I tend to go through Huddersfield 'cuz it's less distance than taking the M62/M1.
