Bought myself a bottle of Isle of Jura a coupla days ago - it's been too hot to really appreciate it the last couple of days, so I left it alone and drank the Castle Lager (South African lager - very nice it is too) instead. Last night the weather eventually broke. It'd been threatening to all day, the clouds had been building and building, turning from white whisps in the sky into grey monoliths.

When it broke, and the cool storm air started to pervade my space, wrapping round me and taking away that hot, humid taste to the world, I knew what I had to do :) The box is short and squat, unsealed - hiding a beautifully shaped bottle. Almost like a coke bottle that's been squashed flat on two sides. The seal on the bottle top came off with ease and I pulled out the cork stopper - and sniffed.

I won't even try to describe it to you, but if you can imagine what a good (fairly light) Malt Whisky smells like, use your imgination and go to heaven. I poured myself less than a shot into a tall and thin shot glass, and spent another few moments savouring the smell, tasting the aroma, and when the time was right, sipped gently.

Again - I couldn't describe to you the taste, but it is 100 times better than the last bottle I bought - Ardbeg 10yr old, 47.5%, peaty and vicious - smooth and with a only very slight burn.

Yep, last night was a good whisky night.
