I was not impressed at work. They were saying that if you wanted to you could observe a 3min silence for the Spaniards affected by the bombing the other day.

I wasn't planning on taking part as I generally think silences to be a non-productive use of my time when I could be doing something more active. I have plenty of time to reflect on these things in my own time.

I was effectively forced into taking part by having my ops manager breathing down my neck to get off the call I was on. Lucky it was a short one.

Yeah. WTF is that all about? We had that here (though most people ignored it). And these things just seem to be creeping - last I checked they were meant to be 1 minute. And then they became two. And now three. Why? What's the point?

Can't we just ban comemorative silences? Maybe spend a minute a day doing something constructive instead?
