Gotta find this very funny...

You point out a flaw in someone's logic and they decide that you're a threat to them. I'm impressed by the lack of brains that this
hothead has :) Then again... judging by some of the posts and comments in that community, I'm amazed anyone manages to make a comment and not get banned :)

offred's post seemed ironic, even though I sometimes share similar frustrations. However, I would not feel like slashing car tires over a bumpersticker.
Some years ago, an acquaintance whose van was plastered with progressive/leftist/social justice, etc... bumperstickers came back from a hike to find her windshield smashed. Earlier in the day, a couple of men had harassed her about the stickers on her car and threatened her. Unfortunately, they were never caught.
Certainly, people have a right to think what they want, and certainly, they have a right to plaster their bumper with their opinions. However, I also think it is offred's right to feel angry. I'm curious to know why you don't understand her anger.
While your action suggestions are good, I don't think that's all she needs to do. Sometimes some people just need to be in a community of support to vent. I sometimes find "venting" helpful. That seems to be the purpose of that community.
When you are confronted with something you personally feel offensive, are you able to ignore it? I think that inability to ignore might be what has motivated many people to take positive action and create social change.

If you can find out why they feel that way and possibly change their opinions by challenging them on it - then you have done something constructive. Even by making it known to them that you don't agree with their point of view can be constructive as it may make them think "oo, wonder why they feel that way" and think about it, albeit briefly.
But by doing nothing other than ranting about it in a place which is never going to be viewed by anyone other than similar minded people? No effect on the world other than a few people agreeing with something they already thought.
If I find something personally offensive I try my hardest to make my opinions known, but to be honest there are very few things that offend me on a personal level.
This is probably a little hypocritical as I know I rant in my journal sometimes :) But it's normally about customers who I can't tell how I really feel else I'd lose my job *G*
Oh, and the "this is funny" remark was pointed towards the banning rather than the post itself. Not exactly sure why I was banned, to be honest. Just goes to show that different people have different ways of dealing with things I guess :)

Democracy sucks. I think we should all live without rulers.

Well, that would piss me off if I saw it, but I don't think I'd be frothing at the mouth quite as badly as the person in that post!! :) Y'know, getting angry doesn't really help - if you want to change people's opinions it's about staying calm and trying to educate them.
Which I guess is exactly what you were saying in your own reply to it :)

That was exactly what I was saying and the person who I was replying to understood that, but the comm maintainer... wow...

Silly little girl. She's going to get a hell of a shock when she emerges into the real world.
