Exactly what... what can you say?

T-Mobile have decided they are sick of us, and are outsourcing us. Well, when I say "us" I mean Dearne Valley. So all DV employees except a few are being outsourced to a company called TSC.

At least this is the proposed thingie. They have both agreed in principle to this, and the deal is due to go ahead mid-November. What this means... we're legally obliged to have the same T&C and stuff when the changeover happens, but after that it's up to TSC to make up their mind. Apparently there's been a 12mth period negotiated where we (the existing DV agents) shall remain on T-Mobile contract, and 6mths where TDMS advisors will remain on the same calls.

After this, who knows.
I need a new job. Now.

ugh.

no such thing as job security these days... once upon a time, people signed up with a company, were treated with loyalty, worked out their lifetime there, then retired.... I just don't think that happens anymore!

worked out their lifetime there, then retired.

Sounds like some kind of living hell. Working in the same place for your entire working life. *shudder*

I need a new job. Now.

It looks like you're getting a new job in six months, whether you like it or not!

*grins* I need to change my catchphrase :)

I too find it difficult to imagine working in one place all your life. Has some benefits, I guess but would be very limiting...

I think it can, but few people are happy to do the same job for so long, and often the only way to find promotion/more money is to move.

The jobs are secure, apparently. So our operations managers and the directors keep on telling us. Whether we believe them or not........

... can actually work out in your favour, and I'd say your job probably is fairly secure.

Basically, you will be subject to the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, often called TUPE. This means that your employment is deemed to have been continuous between your original employer and your new employer, and all of your terms and conditions have to stay the same. If the new firm were to fire you, you would be entitled to redundancy money if your total time with T-mobile and then the new firm was long enough to entitle you (I think it is 2 years, but would have to double-check). They would also have to follow a valid redundancy procedure, which would include consideration of alternative positions within the firm, etc., and could lead to you working for the new firm but for someone other than T-mobile.

If you want to know more, drop me an email and I'll look out my old paperwork on the subject.

I'd love to know as much as there is to know! As time has gone on I'm feeling happier about it. Seeing it as just another insult from T-Mobile who seem to have been trying to annoy as many people as possible!

But as I've said elsewhere, opportunities are a-coming...
