I forgot to write...

I called Oswald from HR on Thursday, who hadn't bothered to reply to my email asking whether there was any news. Turns out there isn't, but woulda been nice to get some kind of reply. Apparently the hiring manager is on paternity leave, which is just smegging typical, eh?

I'm selling some stuff on ebay. Some old Nokia data cables I have no use for, an old router and wireless access point. If anyone wants either a D-Link DWL-900+AP (£25 + P&P) or a Sitecom 4 port switch (£20 + P&P), let me know by mail (ebay -aatt- philsumner.co.uk) and I'll let you know postage/pickup.

Might sell old trust Midi keyboard too, I've no use for it really. I got it out a while back to try and use it more often, but it's more hassle than it's worth from my point of view. Anyone want a 49 (full size) key midi keyboard, with connector for sustain pedal? Not sure what value it has, but I'm sure someone will make an offer!

As a programmer, hardware isn't my strong point so I'll outline my requirements and maybe you can help!

In short - one desktop, one laptop. Both will need to share a single ADSL connection. Would your D-Link DWL-900+AP be part of that equation? If so, I might be interested in a purchase!

If you wanted a wireless network, then it could be. It's an 802.11b wireless access point. Can simply plug into a router/DSL(or cable) modem and voila, instant wireless network.

I'm going to assume that you know nothing :)

I should probably expand on that a little bit... you'd need wireless cards for the laptop and PC (unless they're built in), but you can pick those up from under £20 each on ebay, probably less.

The AP simply plugs into my ADSL modem, is assigned an IP address (DHCP) by the modem, and that's all the setup needed for the basics. If you want to secure your communications (well.... WEP ain't that secure but better than nothing) you can then use the web based interface to set up WEP and 802.11x auth if you have such things.

Okay, I currently have a USB ADSL model in the back of my desktop atm. So if I got a wireless card (as you say, not expensive) and plugged the access point into the phone socket and I'd be ready to go? :)

Ah, no.

It's purely a wireless access point, not a modem too. You couldn't use it with a USB only modem because it connectes via ethernet.
