I just spent 20minutes fighting my wee wireless network - the laptop claimed multiple times that there was no wireless network, even when RIGHT next to the access point. Hmm. Then it would work for 5 minutes but only at 1Mb/s for 30 seconds, then stop working again.

Now, I changed nothing, and it's working again!?

I give up.

Use it,
it's working now.
What more do you need.

It's just very frustrating when things stop working for no readily apparent reason.

I felt the need to vent ;)

Interference is the most likely reason... people using microwave ovens or someone else using the same channel as you nearby are usually the most likely culprits. Oh and certain cordless telephones as well.

Well I did think about that, I'd moved everything in my living room and thought that the phone might be the cause, so unplugged it. No difference.

I know next door have an open access point which I occasionally abuse just for the fun of it (but their connection is slower than mine) but I can only pick it up if I stand right next to the wall so that's not it.

I was very confused.
