The line closed in 1981, but it used to be the formidable 1 in 40 Worsborough bank that loaded coal trains used to have to slog up on their way to Manchester via Penistone. It was rather famous in railway circles.

Ahhhhhh. Must say that 1 in 40 doesn't *sound* that bad, but I imagine the scale of slopes is slightly different on train wheels.

Actually, anything steeper than 1 in 100 is steep for trains.
