Or something. I must be an electronics whizz (yeah right). My CD player has been giving me grief for a long time. It's a 5 CD changer that I inherited from my parents. It's ancient, but in pretty good nick, and a good brand.

The problem is that the spinny platter thingie has a habit of not recognising which disc it's at, and consequently spins out of control for upwards of 5 minutes before eventually realising that it should stop, and more often than not gets the wrong disc. I noticed that if I took off the lid and slowed the spinning down a little by sticking my finger on the platter as it span, it worked fine. Obviously not a viable long term solution :)

My permanent solution? A bit of paper between the spinning platter and the case. Provides enough friction to slow it down, but allows it to move freely. Simple, and now my CD player works perfectly again! YAY! Mix-tapes ahoy!
