Sent off 3 emails/covering letters to agencies along with CVs, applied for a further 2 jobs through CWJobs and another one off another site whose name I can't remember. These are all for jobs in the North West - Warrington, Cheshire, Manchester. It's all good, right?
Today, I spent most of my time at work trying not to get annoyed. Things are busy. Not just for us lot, who are being dumped on yet again but for everyone this time. Why are we being dumped on? Long story really. In short...
We were tech support, we were told we're not needed any more. We're now downgraded to "tech cluster", which basically means if someone chooses the "my phone doesn't work" option on the IVR, we get the call. As well as these calls we get internal calls from other CSAs. So unlike any other group within the company, we're constantly busy and management don't seem to either want to understand, or care enough to question why our stats have gone to hell - and not only that, are considering making the targets harder to hit when none of us are hitting them in the first place.
So, I'm not particularly happy at the moment with work. I've had a bad week with MSing - I've started work with a new company (SiteReports) who do photos of billboard advertising to check that adverts are in good condition. Unfortunately, the very second I decided to go and do these photos, the sun came out and I couldn't get any good pictures because the way the adverts were all facing meant I was looking into the sun. So now I need to do them again... I sent some paperwork back to Direct Excellence from the West Felton post office the other day which they are now claiming not to have received - meaning I have had to fill in the forms again. I had a report sent back because I juxtaposed two sections and they couldn't deal with fixing it themselves...
I'm having a really bad week.
Tomorrow is going to be really bad too. I have 3 banks, 2 photos, 2 coffee shops and a burger job to do, results to input and a gym to visit before Jane arrives - assuming she does come. I know I know, I accept all this work, I didn't have to... but I'm such a sucker. Amazing number... by the end of this tax year I'll have been paid somewhere in the region of £3,000 by MSing. Yes that includes reimbursement, but I don't have the figure for "just fees" yet :)
[Edit: Having updated my spreadsheet (yet again), I now know my total fees rec'd are... *drumroll* £1,580. Not too shabby. It's the test purchases that really push that figure to what's up above, and the expenses (printing, milage, parking). Of course, I calculate that I can claim about half of that back as business expenses on my tax form, so we'll see what happens...]

You got paid £1,500 quid, BUT with all the extra mileage your doing surely a fair chunk of that goes in depretiation on your car and additional servicing costs because it is being used more.
And well for the amount of work it involves for the given amount of time taken is it really worth it?

The time taken, is it worth it? Well that's something that you have to judge for yourself. I do some jobs that take about an hour to do (accept, print paperwork, do job, enter results) and get paid £40 for it. I do other jobs that take maybe half an hour to do in total, and get paid a fiver for it. Unfortunately with new jobs it's impossible to tell because you've no idea how long it'll take to work with the company's dodgy website, or the job takes a lot longer than you initially thought.
I don't particularly care what my work/time ratio is because I only do it for the extra cash and to keep myself busy. I slot work in where I have free time (working shifts is great for that). What else would I be doing on my days off? :)
I know people that won't do work unless they get an average of £10/hour for it. It's possible...
In short - it's a personal thing. I mainly like doing it because it keeps me going when I could be wallowing at home being depressed, gives me something to do that I can put on my CV, and makes a bit of cash.

The money doesn't take into account the goods and services I get out of it. For example, I have a year's gym membership worth around £800 for free, I have had several meals out paid for (both me and a partner), I have more post ofice goods (prepaid electric meter tokens, stamps, savings stamps) than I can shake a rather large stick at. I have some clothes paid for. I have had eye tests and had a chance to get glasses. I've even had petrol paid for. If you're 'in with' the right companies you can get holidays at butlins paid for. (though why you'd want to is beyond me?)
All this stuff doesn't show on my records, but (some of) it is stuff I need and would need to buy anyway. And because it's all essential to do the job, is classed as expenses and non-taxable.

Just seemed to me that all the extra milage had knackered the car, and well your fixing costs were quite high.
I was just reckoning that although it might take you half an hour to do a job, it takes you a while to get there, etc so the effective rate including travel time is lower.
Ah well, I was just curious as to if it was any good, etc.
