I have a greeting. I have to use it. If you ignore what I say, I shall only repeat it until you do listen. The phrase "can I please take your mobile number" does not mean "Tell me your problem", "tell me your name" or any other response other than a numerical one.
If you've been waiting on hold for a long time (and I appreciate that lately, you have been), I know you might be surprised when I answer the phone so I give you a few seconds to respond. I'll ask the question again, but the response "Hello?" to my question "Hello caller, can you hear me?" will only make me repeat the phrase again. "Hello?" is not a response to the question. Listen to me.
You call me for advice, right? So why, when I tell you something, do you deny that what I am telling you is correct? Yes I know that several years ago your old Vodafone handset was not network locked, but these days that is common practise. That is why your SIM doesn't work in it. The error message essentially tells you that. However, I'm lying. Perhaps to get some kind of kick out of you yelling at me whilst you're obviously doing your receptionist job. You must have looked really professional.
