Driving home from Jane's today was most unfun.
As
pipsytip mentioned, we went to bed at night, with a smattering of snow - she says "It won't settle, it's too wet".
Up she gets in the morning to find the cats which were noticable by their very absence, and comes back practically bouncing and exclaiming that it's a winter wonderland outside. And lo, there were probably 2-3 inches of snow on the ground. I debated with myself what to do, but decided that no matter what, I'd only have to work back the time I didn't work or take it unpaid, and I'd rather struggle back than have to do that - which I would resent.
So, off I set, and about 3hrs later arrived. Not bad. The A483 was one lane all the way, pretty much, with a jack-knifed lorry on the other carriageway and a local authority van which misjudged the edge of the carriageway causing much amusement. A sports car which could figure out how to control the power on an icy sliproad caused a scene and much merriment in my car at least.
The stupid thing being, that the very second I got past Manchester, it stopped. Almost completely. The snow just stopped. Darn it.
Oh.
I haven't told you, have I?
I got a second interview with Dedicated Micros. The interview was with an HR lady who was very friendly and nice and we just had a bit of a chat - very informal and basic questionning on my current role, my aspirations, what I do outside of work. We spent a good while talking about marketing work and I got the usual reaction when I mentioned how much I am doing right now - but I think stressing that it's only working shifts that enables that much work assured them that I'm not doing anything stupid.
Learnt more about the business and the role. Working in a team of 9, reporting to support supervisor, who is under the manager, who is under director. Expect a 12month period of learning and integration (wow!), providing support for the network side of the multiplexor systems - they produce CCTV multiplexors which take several feeds and record them on one medium, and this is done through various networked methods. That would be my role, the network support.
It sounds really interesting, however it also sounds like it would be a serious challenge. I'm not sure if I'm going to be what the department management want, but I am going to sell sell sell as hard as I can.
*crosses fingers*
