We got tickets to see Damian Rice at the MEN Arena on Thursday night. Jane and I took advantage of this bu going into town early and spending the day, and having dinner at Wagamama :)

Damian Rice was excellent. Much much better live than I expected, though admittedly I don't know what I really expected. He's a lot rockier - edgier - live than you'd think from his albums.

His support act was his Cellist, Vivian Long. Her and a piano, drummer and variously another cellist or flautist. She was again excellent and I suspect a number of you lot would appreciate the music.

I have been ill since Friday, after having spent Wednesday and Thursday waiting on a sickly Janey. Today I feel much better though band call tomorrow may be a challenge if the feeling in my throat goes the wrong way.

Yesterday we went to see Ratatoullie (sp?). It was a thoroughly engaging way to spend two hours with lots of fun and laughter, and enough humour of the right kind to entertain a wooly-headed shambling snot-monster.

It's all of a week to the show now, and my confidence in it being as good as it first promised is low. The music has lost so much harmony even if the movement now doesn't suck ass, I wonder if we can get it back in the next 3 rehearsals. I must admit I was guilty of singing the tune rather than the tenor line when we started the movement but I think I'm better now...

Damien Rice = win. Although quite why he dropped Lisa Hannigan is beyond me, as she, for me, MAKES his music what it is. Glad you enjoyed it :)

I'm assuming she's the lass that sings on various songs on O? mm, she's nice enough but he's more than capable on his own.

Lisa Hannigan sings on 'Cold Water', 'I Remember', and 'Volcano', along with several other backing tracks on 'O'. She also sings on '9 Crimes' and 'Sleep Don't Weep' from '9', along with a plethora of unreleased tracks, B sides and bonuses, some of which she sings solo. She attended 90% of the gigs promoting 'O', and went to the radio shows with Damien as well.

Perhaps you needed to see him perform with her, in order to miss her. Because I really do. I think you'll notice her absence on his next album, because they're not working together at all any more.
