We've had a [livejournal.com profile] boneistand [livejournal.com profile] sbj180staying with us this weekend.  Yesterday we practiced our accents and got out our passports - and went on a day trip to North Wales.  Our eventual aim was Portmeirion, as I am somewhat a fan of The Prisoner I was quite excited.

The journey was fraught with caravans, busses and motor-homes going down roads which frankly were inappropriate even for a car!  Add to the mix a bicycle race round the roads of North Wales and you have a really uhhhm, "interesting" drive.

Portmeirion itself is easy enough to find, as long as you follow the signs.  Dump your car and walk to the village and you get the first signs that things are a little bit odd in the village.

The views over the bay are wonderful, well I imagine they are much more wonderful when the sun shines but never mind, we're British what-what?  As we arrived there was also a swimming pool, and people were in it before I took these pictures.  Fools!

Dawn spotted something far far away.

We'd been there about half an hour at this point.  I say half an hour but that doesn't take into account the fun we had at the cafe.  Trying to cram four people round a table which was in everybody's way was an experience.  Anyhow, the wind was howling and the rain was threatening to come down, poor Jane was constantly threatened with being blown away.

We did manage to find a very pleasant break from the onslaught round the corner, away from the coastline.  Not entirely sure what the place's name is, but here's a picture or two.

Everywhere in the village and surrounding woodlands there are little statues, gargoyles, random buildings with no purpose.  The whole place is one giant folly.

The famous bits now.  I love this scene - shame about the picture quality.

Just to prove to my anyone who may question that we were there...

And just to top it all off, some scenery - because I can.
