I have had some ideas on stuff to do in order to become more productive, and hopefully learn something at the same time. Because I am a networking fanatic (I love learning about networks - it's a fascinating thing really, consider how a few wires can transform the purpose of a computer from mere workstation into a fully fledged communications and entertainment centre) I wanted to do something based around that. Because I am learning Perl I want to do something with that. Solution?

A Perl LJ client. Probably not going to go for public release, but it'll be a damn good learning opportunity to learn and (hopefully) contribute something. Well, it was either that or a simple Perl web server/client - and the LJ client I am more likely to stick with!

Wheeee.

What a splendid piece of music this is. You can truly understand why Kubrick chose it as the theme to A Clockwork Orange. Very powerful. Very moving. As it approaches it's climax I can feel my body starting to tingle gently.

Hmmm.

Tommorrow I sign on. Whoohooo! 11am, this is going to be a struggle :) Hey, that's my getting up time, so I'll have to be in bed by 1:30am to make that (realistically) - and still have enough willpower left to go to town and buy a new motherboard battery. Tumtum.

I like success, no matter how small - it gives you a reason to go for the next level. (Hmm, what was this I said about an early night? I should go now, shouldn't I?)

I got the letter today from the DSS (or whatever they're called nowadays) telling me I'm getting money, yay! A measley £42 a week, but hey - it's more than I am getting right now. What's the betting I get a job next week? lol

My mum and I were going to go out grocery shopping after I signed on, yet when we got to the supermarket (Asda, now part of the Wal*Mart brand), found a sign outside the door saying "closed from 10:30am-1pm as a mark of respect.......". ARGH! As was Safeway. FEH! I also heard on the radio that Aberdeen city centre turned all the traffic lights to red for two minutes, how ridiculous is that?

I have a new battery for my motherboard - £4.50 that thing cost me! Absolutely bleeding ridiculous, that's what I say. I also bought a copy of Scottish jobs. I really don't know why I am bothering... One IT job in the paper. And that was for a Mac/PC "Operator", whatever that means.

I'm seriously going to go to Safeway's open day on Saturday - I am desperate.

Bim Sherman - Heaven (Underwolves Mix) is my current favourite. It's Bim Sherman's oh so fabulous vocals over a fantastic backbeat (and various other effects)... other tunes worthy of note are "They Might Be Giants - 88 Lines About 44 Women" (good fun song), and the Hannibal soundtrack/score. Also downloading more Little Axe (The Wolf That House Built).

Who said I had very rigid musical tastes then? :)

So, I can now login to LJ, get the return stuff that's spat out, split it into the appropriate key/value pairs and well... that's it so far :) But it can't be hard to go from here and actually _post_ something, surely? I am such a geek :)

Response from server, all parsed and paired up... )

Went out shopping with mum on a failed attempt to buy groceries, I bought myself a new battery for my motherboard, I walked round Helensburgh in the nice hot sun, considered going to Glasgow but decided in the end that I couldn't be dealing with Glasgow on a day like this. Came home, bought a job paper and found one solitary IT job... got some more stuff working in my mini-LJ client.

And that has been my day. Honest. This is the life of the unemployed ex-student who has no money and no friends in the local area. If ya think it's dull from reading about it - it is :) Though hopefully the money situation will improve shortly. Especially after calling Barclays Personal Credit and getting them to cancel this month's payment, to pay this month's back above and beyond the normal payment over the next few months.

So each monthly payment is normall £60-ish, for the next 3 months I could pay £80, or £70 for 6. Of course this doesn't include interest... though I'm not too worried about that right now. As long as I can make the payments. Though you realise - after paying this every month, that leaves me with under £100 a month? Ugh. Curse my feeble memory for forgetting this.
