Sleep is good. Sleeping from 1930 to 0030 is probably not the best way to set myself up for a good night's sleep, but hey - I currently feel fantastic. I only wanted an hour's kip but thought to myself "nahh, why bother setting the alarm - you'll wake up after a short time"....

Must be up at 7 tomorrow to ensure I can pick up parcels from post office. Yay for wireless networking. Bought a new wireless kit from Simply Computers (D-Link DSL-G904 I think). This means I can sell/get rid of my Solwise SAR130 which has served me well for a year, and flog my Sitecom 4 port switch which has served me even more faithfully for about 2yrs. Then I can flog the D-Link DI-714P+ which has eventually arrived (well, is probably at the post office) from the ebay seller.

I _should_ end up spending nothing on this - overall...

I upgraded my server to the Linux 2.6.9 kernel yesterday. This has worked overall without a hitch, however the display doesn't work properly - it looks kinda mashed up. This isn't a major issue as I don't actually need to use the display for anything - I do everything remotely. Whether the new kernel will change anything or not, I don't know.

Oh, and rchotplug fails on boot, but I don't think I use hotplug (USB/PCMCIA) on the server for anything anyhow.

At least it works on the server - I couldn't get 2.6 kernels to run on the laptop - ended up doing a reinstall from FTP of another SuSE version (9.1 instead of 8.2). I think I need to investigate the software versions installed more closely if I try it again, 'cuz 2.6 kernels have some new requirements.

I've been geeking with Phex of late - phex is a Java based front end to the gnutella network - it's rather good :) Better than mutella - but both have their relative merits. Mutella is very simple, but doesn't do multi-homed downloads properly.

Found out whilst playing briefly with new YaST in SuSE 9.1 that they have a front end for editing DNS zones in it - I wanna play :) Hope it does reverse DNS zones - 'cuz these are a pain in the bum.

So I downloaded the Electric Six video for "Gay Bar" today - that is quite possibly the most odd thing I've ever seen. Or maybe that honour should go to their video for "Radio Ga Ga"?

Enjoying a remix of Dave Matthews Band's "Crash" - filename claims to be a "Fatboy Slim Remix" which I don't believe, ID3 tage states it's a "Hip-Hop Mix", which is more accurate - quite enjoyable. Doing a search for "remix" every now and then on file sharing networks gets you some really really weird stuff.

Yay :)
I have geeky toys. New DSL-904 pack which consists of a D-Link DSL-G604T Wireless ADSL Modem with 4 port switch, and DWL-122 (a USB wireless adapter). I've just spent the last hour or so pulling out all my old equipment (4 pt Sitecom switch, Solwise SAR-130 ADSL modem, and others) and replacing it with one easy box.

True, some of the configuration on the new kit isn't as good as the old stuff (DHCP reserved address config is a bloody nightmare, appears to be no way to enter the MAC address and the IP you want it to be given...) but I am very happy right now :)

At least brave, or stupid. Currently upgrading mainpc to SuSE 9.1 - it seems to work fine with kernel 2.6.9 which is better than the laptop which I couldn't persuade to work with it, so I have hope yet.

Today I seem to be manageing to stay awake at least, unlike last night which was a good one for me sleepwise. Ended up with about 11hrs - 1900 to midnight and 0130 to 0730. Think I needed it. I went to bed after a half-glass of wine :)

Trying to decide whether to wait until tomorrow afternoon to list my router and ADSL modem on ebay (if you start an auction to finish in an evening, especially Sunday evening, you should get higher bids than if it's due to finish in the daytime), or do it now. If I do it now, I can have it finish on Saturday or Thursday evening - neither of these are good... let's wait.

God I am sad.
Currently watching Steve make an arse of himself singing the final song on X-Factor. A shame for G4, who I genuinely thought could go places. And would surely perform better under the pressure than this joke.
