They May
They Could
They Should Be Giants

I was inroduced to TMBG by Rach ages and ages back. Of course I knew WHO they were beforehand, but only for the cliched and probably much hated track "Birdhouse in Your Soul". I went out and picked up "Severe Tire Damage" which (although I didn't know it at the time) is a live album and loved it. Every single track full of energy and packed with originality.

I recently got hold of a copy of "Flood" (thanks [livejournal.com profile] pipsytip) and have been distinctly unimpressed. It feels flat, lifeless and unenthusiastic compared to what I expected. It's certainly original, but it feels like it's being performed with a lack of zeal compared to what I knew.

I know as well as anyone not to judge a band on one song/album so will be on the lookout for more, in order to try and revive my liking for them.

Just watched 'And Maggie Makes Three' (Season 6 of Simpsons) and the ending is another of the truly touching ones (like 'Lisa's Substitute' with Dustin Hoffman... "You are Lisa Simpson", awww!). The Simpson family are asking why there are no pictures of Maggie in the photo album, and Homer explains how he's quit and reapplied for his job at the SNPP, and when he re-joined he was given a plaque reading "Don't forget: you're here forever".

At the end he says "Oh there are photos, I keep them where I need the most cheering up" and it zooms out a shot of the sign plastered with photos in such a way that it reads "Do it for her".

*sniffs*

I'm such a sap, yeah I know!

Bed is something that should be luxuriant, not bare and functional, right? so the money i spent on a new pillow tonight is worth every penny... right? Certainly feels it compared to my old one. This has depth to it, for a start!

current music... akabu / andy fairley bizarre mix of jack the biscuit.

My laptop's insurance/support people. I've had no modem available since I was pissing about with bluetooth and my phone, and somehow managed to delete all my COM ports. Don't ask me how, I didn't do it on purpose. No matter what I do now, I can't get them to re-appear!

So I bit the bullet and called them up, and blow me down wasn't the call answered within 10 seconds of it ringing! Considering last time I called them I was holding for 40 minutes at a time before I got through, I thought this was rather impressive. He asked me what I'd tried (add/remove hardware, add modems) and asked me to look in the device manager, and that was it. When the modem wasn't there he said he'd arrange to get it picked up and taken to be 'repaired'!

Astonished much? Oh yes! I'm wondering if a Windows reinstall would be the best route here. I'm going to see if I have a half-legal WinXP disk around and do that before they come to pick it up, I think. I've not much stuff on here that I can't either download or save on my small pen-drive (my main concerns are my financial/MSing records).

Fingers crossed i have a disk/key combination...
