Why iTunes is utterly shit

I downloaded a trial version of Anapod Manager to play with, to try and do some things on the iPod that iTunes doesn't let me do easily. I made many changes to the tracks on there - 115, to be precise. Various album names added, various years added, track numbers added. A couple of hours research on the web and my CD collection.

I then ran iTunes whilst watching Frasier. I didn't watch what iTunes was doing because I was watching TV.

I went back to the iPod, only to find that iTunes had overwritten all my changes with the information stored in it's own database. Where the hell, where in the world does this heap of crap get off on doing that? I've now turned off iTunes' options to update anything, ever. I'm just pissed off about it.

iTunes sucks royally. I think that was one of the conditions under which the music industry would let Apple open the iTunes Music Store. Basically, they've completely crippled the iPod through the limitations of iTunes.

It's such a shame - the device is _obviously_ capable of so much. It's such a clever piece of kit, only to have it knobbled and crippled by the music industry's own sense of inadequacy.

If it's infuriating for us, imagine what it must be like for the guys who designed and worked on the iPod originally.

Ohhhh no - I've tried every option in iTunes, every suggestion on the web to make it less crap, but it maintains it's rubbishness, no matter what.

And having issues with certain songs that display in iTunes, 'transfer' and get never end up on the ipod

"iTunes is utter crap, and Apple's insistence that you use it for the iPod, as well as their repeated attempts to lock out third party applications, is just another reason (in conjunction to the iPod being overpriced) to choose an alternative player, such as something by Creative, with higher quality software available which doesn't try and be clever and screw up everything you have tried to do".

Ahhh now that I agree with. And if I hadn't got this as a freebie (whoohoo), I personally wouldn't have bought an iPod.

Maybe I should flog it and use the proceeds to buy another player? :)

I was actually contemplating that. Mine wasn't quite a freebie but at $10 AU it was damn close.

Got an offer for $400 AU for it, am seriously considering it.
