1) What was the first CD/Record/Album/Artist you ever bought and what
format was it in?

I suspect it was something really cheesy. I had really crap music taste
as a kid, trust me. This comes from the guy who owns Ant and Dec's
"Let's Get Ready to Rhumble" and "Mr Blobby".

2) How do you usually listen to music?
(iPod/Walkman/Stereo/Radio)

It really varies. I listen on the PC, on an iPod, on the radio, in the
car on tapes, CDs, tapes, vinyl. The majority is car-based.

3) What is your favorite genre of music and why?
I don't have a favourite "genre". There's good and bad music in all
styles. There's artists who transcend all styles and make anything
sound good, there's artists who destroy whatever they touch.

4) What is your opinion on music video shows and music televion?
Am I expected to trot out the line "Video killed the radio star"? I
hope so 'cuz that was my first thought. MTV is probably singlehandedly
responsible for the reduction in attention-span for the younger
generations. Most music videos are constructed of shots less than 5
seconds long and these are crimped together because most "artists" can't
perform for much longer.

5) Do you usually agree with who the winners of the Grammy Awards
are?

To a degree, I like awards. I think any awards that can showcase new
talent and bring them to the forefront of people's attention is a great
thing. As an example take Seth Lakeman, who to me was a complete
unknown before winning the Mercury Music Prize. He's now squarely in
the public's eye.

As to the actual winners and do I agree with who they are, how should
whether I agree or disagree with someone else's opinion be of any
importance?

I'm in quite a serious quantity of pain right now. I seem to have
another wisdom tooth coming through and if this is anything like the
other two that came through 6 months to a year ago, I'm in for a crap
week.

This would of course explain an awful lot. I've had a really bad time
of the past few days. I've not been sleeping and been unable to
identify any particular reason for it. This has then had a knock-on
effect on everything else.

I wish my teeth would just give over.

Tonight I bought Jane's Christmas pressie. It should be delivered before Christmas, though knowing Royal Mail it'll come on December 28th. I think she'll love. More to the point, she best had do ;)

It's bloody freezing in here. I've got the instant electric heating on for the first time (on the lowest setting) and have put the storage heater in the living room on to start up tonight. Meanwhile I have put on my fleece. Gloves aren't quite needed yet ;) Besides they make it hard to type.

I've really struggled with my mouth today. I scrounged a paracetamol from someone which helped for 10 minutes, possibly more of a placebo than anything. I expect I need to hit boots tomorrow and find some painkillers of my own. Anybody got any suggestions?

  1. Given a choice, and imagining that money and time were no object, would you rather cook dinner, eat out or order in?
I love eating out in good restaraunts. I love the pamperedness of being served. I love knowing that I'm going to be impressed no matter what I choose eat. I love knowing that there's nothing to do after the meal than to sit back, relax and wait for the pudding stomach to kick in ;)

Eating in has it's plusses, intimacy being one of the biggest. However cooking always leaves you with the washing up. Unfortunately I loathe this more than most tasks.
  2. What is the most elaborate meal you've ever prepared yourself or purchased at a restaurant?
I've never cooked anything particularly elaborate. I've done roasts, I've done meals with several courses, but no food, no meal should be overly elaborate in my eyes. Simplicity is the best thing.

Along the same lines is my most elaborate meal ever eaten out. I still class the meal with my parents at a place on Portobello Road as the best food I had, whilst not complex, it was elaborate and all round wonderful.
  3. What food do you find yourself making and/or eating way too much?
I tend to cook in bulk. This means I end up eating lots of the same thing. This can be anything from spag bol, chilli, soup, casseroles.... they're probably the most common, but there's lots more.
  4. What was your most disastrous cooking/eating out experience?
I've never had a disastrous eating out experience, I've abandoned a few attempts at cooking in my time, mostly because I was overzealous with herbs - oregano in particular.
  5. Would you rather cook for someone else or have them cook for you?
Neither - there are pleasures in both.

  1. What job do you have, and why do you like/hate it?
I am a "Technical Support Engineer" for a manufacturer of CCTV equipment of various types. This involves talking to installers and salesmen who want info on our products and can't be arsed to look in the manuals and/or datasheets.

I loathe it and love it in equal measure. To me there is no greater pleasure than spending an age on a problem and resolving it, and having someone thank you. A thank you makes my day in so many ways. I loathe it because at times we're reduced to talking manuals. Churning out the same hackneyed phrases over and over again, to the same people! I dislike being asked to provide part numbers! Is it just me, or should customer services have the same level of knowledge of what products are on offer that a tech support team does? Part numbers aren't "tech"...
  2. As a kid, what did you want to be when you "grew up?"
I never had a "When I grow up....." thing, or at least I don't think I did. The only career I ever imagined was one in computing, probably since I was about 13.
  3. Is the job you have now anything like what you imagined as a kid?
In a roundabout fashion. The kit I work with is as technical as any computer, however I always envisaged myself working as a developer. I'm slowly working my way to the testing and project management side of things now.
  4. Do you have a five-year career plan?
No. I have a vague 1-year plan. I want to be out of customer-facing in 12 months if I can help it. I want to be back-office, perhaps dealing with integration and new large-scale projects.
  5. In order to get the job of your dreams, is there anything you wouldn't do? Why?
Not really. I wouldn't do anything "bad", if that counts for anything.
